Days 1 and 2
, Tuesday  and  Wednesday: we will be based at the historic ST. IVES SCHOOL OF PAINTING studio overlooking Porthmeor Beach, where Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Sandra Blow and many others worked. Here we can have painting and tuition whatever the weather, and use it as a base for exploring and painting St. Ives and visiting the Tate Gallery.
Day 3, Thursday: our base will be Richard Sorrell’s studio on the wild moors of West Penwith. Those that wish can see the ancient settlement nearby at Chysauster, or make a trip to the Penlee Gallery, or to Newlyn or Mousehole, or stay and work in and around Richard’s studio, where we shall have supper together.
Day 4,  Friday: in the morning we shall visit Trevarno, a beautiful Cornish garden where we can paint or sketch a different subject matter in a different light. We shall have lunch there before going to work in the afternoon at  Janet Treloar’s cliff top studio - a very different light again. Supper at Janet’s cottage.
On Monday the 16th we shall meet at 6pm at the Sloop Inn on the harbour front at St. Ives for a get-together and those that wish can go to the £7 ‘drop in’ life classes held at the St. Ives School 7.30–9.30pm.

Residential Courses

RWS Friends in East Anglia Residential Course
Led by Paul Newland RWS, Liz Butler RWS and Salliann Putman RWS

Organised by Angela Bould RWSFEA

Date: 13-19 July 2008 *FULLY BOOKED*
Venue: Giggleswick School, Nr. Settle, Yorkshire
Cost: £575.00 for painters, £455.00 for non painters

The RWS Friends in East Anglia are planning a residential course in 2008 under the leadership of three prominent and senior members of the RWS: Paul Newland, Liz Butler and Salliann Putman, and we invite any Friends nationwide to join us. The course will be held at Giggleswick School, on the edge of the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park, from Sunday 13th – Saturday 19th July 2008  and will cost £575.00 (you will be responsible for your own travel arrangements). The school was founded in 1499 and granted its’ Royal Charter in 1553. It moved to the present site in 1874.

There is so much to paint around the school, the village and the countryside, including a beautiful chapel that the school have kindly allowed us to use as a painting venue, so travel while on the course can be kept to a minimum. If the weather turns against us there are excellent facilities for painting inside. We will have the sole use of a large and airy room as a studio cum coffee/tea/lunch venue as well as a storage facility/critique room. We will be housed in two of the school’s residential houses in simple living accommodation. There are mainly single rooms with a limited number of double rooms available (so partners are welcome to come at a cost of £455.00 each. Aubrey Bould, Chairman of RWSFEA will be delighted for anyone to join him on his walks. The houses have small kitchens equipped with fridges and microwaves so you will be able to make early morning and late night drinks. The catering is of a high standard, I hear the sticky toffee pudding is legendary! Special diets (gluten free, nut allergies etc) can all be accommodated as long as the staff knows in advance (they are used to dealing with all types of diet these days).
