Raised in a family of painters and textile artists Helga trained at Edinburgh College of Art in painting and studied printmaking during her post graduate year. As a Lecturer at Edinburgh's Telford College she regularly exhibited her work at both home and abroad.

Helga's subject matter is centred around themes relating to natural history and embraces landscape and still life. Using a wide range of materials she often incorporates watercolour with print and a variety of mixed media.
