Explore the flourishing area that surrounds Bankside Gallery in a 90 minute walk with Blue Badge Guide, Caroline Dale. This route takes in the Tate Modern and its already-iconic Switch House as its launch point to explore some of the lesser known but equally exciting corners of what developers began calling The Bankside Urban Forest a decade ago.
Our route winds through regenerated zones of local streets that date back centuries - some beneath the Victorian complex of crisscrossing train viaducts overhead. Including a handful of unique-to-Southwark legacy stops on the way, this walk examines how fresh architectural approaches combined with enhanced public realm planning has exposed at last the area’s largely unsung but significant contribution to London’s industrial, cultural and social history.
The tour will finish at 3pm at Bankside Gallery where you will get a chance to see the Royal Watercolour Society's autumn exhibition, London - A Sense of Place. A number of RWS artists will be demonstrating their work and you will have a chance to look through their sketch books and preliminary work.
This price includes an audio headset for all visitors and a glass of wine at Bankside Gallery
