A year-round and evolving showcase of artworks by artists of the Royal Watercolour Society at their gallery next to Trafalgar Square.
The latest iteration of the Royal Watercolour Society’s evolving permanent display is a vibrant and lively exhibition in a busy, salon-style hang, showcasing some of the very best in contemporary water-based painting today.
This display also marks a return to the Society’s origins. Inspired by John Frederick Lewis’s sketch The Gallery of the Society of Painters in Water Colours before the Exhibition, 1830, the exhibition recalls the richly layered salon hangs that filled 3 - 5 Whitcomb Street almost two centuries ago.
Echoing that historic scene, this new presentation of Members’ work embraces the spirit of those early exhibitions, resulting in a dynamic display full of unexpected discoveries.

In order to facilitate the evolution of the exhibition over the course of the year there will be a number of periodic pauses throughout the year. Visitors are advised to check this webpage or contact us to ensure the gallery is open on your chosen visiting date.
The Summer Salon is expected to close on Saturday 5th September and a new display will reopen later in the Autumn.
