Claire Dalby

ELECTED ARWS 1973 & RWS 1977

Claire Dalby says of her practice, 'I paint landscapes and still life and am particularly interested in forms as revealed by light, in the latter, and atmosphere in the former. As a botanical illustrator my work ranges from plant portraits to strictly scientific studies. As watercolourist I am interested in landscapes as revealed by the changeable weather (on annual visits to Shetland); still lives with their solid forms, textures, colours and the relationships shown by the way light falls on them; plants, where, as a botanical illustrator, I aim to demonstrate their structure as well as their appearance - again by careful use of light and shade.'
