During this workshop you will explore the theme of “Winter woodlands” in watercolour and ink, using a variety of masking and layering techniques to build up an evocative seasonal landscape. You will firstly be guided through simple warm-up exercises to develop ideas and try out different techniques. These will include different ways to mask areas of paper to preserve the white and evoke snow, moonlight and mystery. You will then move towards a watercolour painting based on these initial visual experiments.
You will also learn how to work with a limited palette of colours, looking at the proportion, balance and tone of colours within a picture. You will consider composition and focal points, and how these can be used to create a sense of atmosphere and depth.
Suitable for all levels of ability, including beginners and those willing to have a go.
This workshop will take place at RWS Gallery on Whitcomb Street, just off Trafalgar Square.
All bookings are non-refundable and processed through the Zeffy platform.
