This December, join us at RWS Gallery for Exploring Media, a new series of practical two-hour workshops exploring six different water-based media: watercolour, gouache, ink, acrylic, masking fluid and egg tempera.

Exploring Egg Tempera

Explore the traditional art of paint-making and the creative possibilities of combining egg tempera and watercolour. In this practical workshop, participants will discover how raw pigments can be transformed into paint using traditional techniques, while exploring the distinctive qualities of these two complementary media. Through experimentation with colour, layering and texture, participants will investigate how different paint consistencies and finishes can be used together to create varied effects on paper.
 
Drawing inspiration from a still-life arrangement, the session offers an opportunity to explore the relationship between materials, surface and mark-making, developing a deeper understanding of these versatile painting techniques.
