Born in 1928 in Angus, Scotland, Sheila Findlay studied art at Edinburgh College of Art 1945-1951 and specialised in stained glass and mural painting with Leonard Rosoman. Her post-graduate studies, 1949-1950, were followed by and award of a year's travelling scholarship in France, Italy and Sweden.
Sheila moved to London in 1951, working as a freelance designer/illustrator in Chelsea. She produced work for leading publishing houses such as Faber & Faber, Bodley Head, Adprint, The Medici Society, etc. She exhibited in The Royal Academy, Young Contemporaries, The London Group, Paintings for Schools, and Britain in Watercolours.
